Command File

The command file is were all the general commands are defined. These are were the light gun specific commands that are used for the general commands. For example, the ‘Open_COM’ command can have multiple light gun commands, to set it up correctly in the beginning of the game. Or can have one command, usually for the recoil or shaking. It all depends on the light gun. All the default light gun command files are in the ‘data’ directory, and are a '.hor' file. The user can find there light gun command file, based on it's name.

The command file is like the MameHooker INI game file. Instead of the output signal equaling the commands, it is now the general command equaling the light gun commands. In the file, it lists out the general commands on the left side, followed by an equal signed. After the equal sign, the light gun commands need to be placed, if the light gun supports it.

There are 2 commands that are different. The first is the ‘Recoil_R2S’ command. It just has a number after the equal sign, which is the delay it uses in milliseconds. This commands is the rumble to solenoid recoil command. The delay is the delay between the recoils. Smaller the number, faster the recoil cycle will happen. The other command is the ‘Display_Refresh’ command. This is only used if the light gun has a display. It refreshes the data on the delay based on the number after the equal sign. This too is in milliseconds. If you are having a problem with the display, increasing this number can help.

You never want to add any light gun specific commands to the DefaultLG game file. This defeats the purpose of making the file generic to all light guns. Also, the DefaultLG game file will error out, as it will not know what the light gun command is. The command file is the place on where you want to change or add commands.

A custom command file can be used for a light gun. The is found in the 2nd tab, Settings tab, in the Add/Edit Light Gun window. The user can click the ‘Set’ button, and then select the custom command file in the file dialog window. Or click the 'Clear' button, to clear out the custom command file. After everything is set, the user then clicks the ‘Add’ or ‘Edit’ button, to enable or disable the custom command file.

Or the user can modify the default command file for the light gun. This will affect all the light guns for that particular light gun. For example, the user is using a 4:3 television. Therefore, they want the light gun to always be in the 4:3 aspect ratio. This can be done by adding the 4:3 aspect ratio command, to the beginning of the ‘Open_COM’ general command. Then when Hook of the Reaper connects to the light gun, it will send the 4:3 aspect ratio command. Please see below, where this is shown in an example using the RS3 Reapers.

More information on changing general commands, can be found in the Technical Support Page.
